Melburnalia No. 2: Rehearsed Reading

The Whale is pleased to invite you to a very special event on Monday 8 December — a rehearsed reading of Melburnalia No. 2, the brand new companion piece to our acclaimed 2007 production Melburnalia.

Featuring a dazzling new quintet of Melbourne writers — Kit Lazaroo, Hoa Pham, Danny Katz, Andrea James and Aidan Fennessey - this will be the first showing of these fascinating short works. The writers have been commissioned by White Whale to each pen a 20 minute play about the secret life of a Melbourne suburb or locality - come along to discover the lost piggeries of the north, the dirty secrets of the south and the ancient myths of the CBD.

Melburnalia No. 2 will take you on a rattling, screeching, ding-ding-dinging sojourn to the heart of our city: Preston, Maribrynong, Caulfield, Birrung Mar and Mentone are the canvasses for this illuminating, comedic and thought-provoking theatrical adventure.

The reading will be slightly rehearsed and will be followed with a brief discussion. Don't miss this one-off opportunity to see these unique new works in development and spend a convivial night with wine, words and whales.

Bring your friends, see you there!

'Words in Space: Writing Narratives of Place and Locality'

In a one-off special event on Sunday 11th November Lally Katz, Ross Mueller, Tee O'Neill and Alice Pung will take part in a Panel Discussion with theatre commentator Alison Croggon. These outstanding local writers are, along with Kate Holden, co-contributors of short plays in White Whale Theatre's Melburnalia which will be presented at fortyfivedownstairs from 1-17 November.

The panelists will discuss the topic 'Words in Space: Writing Narratives of Place and Locality' and in particular the experience of writing plays and fiction about Melbourne; the influence of biography; the interplay of different art-forms; and perspectives on life and artistic community in Melbourne.
